"I think I can, I THINK I CAN...I DID!"

Updated: Oct 5, 2018

As I reflect back to the summer, I begin to THINK about a few teens that I taught how to sew. Initially, when the class begin, although most had never even touched a sewing machine, they were extremely excited about the THOUGHT of being able to make their own clothing. Through conversation and in the windows of their eyes, I could see into their THOUGHTS: designs, different garments, outfits, accessories, how good they would now look, desires of who they wished to dress like and be, where they would now fit-in because of the pieces of clothing that they would create and wear, popularity because of this, a business adventure, the possiblity of profit and even all the events that they imagined attending, wearing their creations. It was a "psychological contratct" that they had mentally created in their minds of themselves and the expectations of what I would teach, their own capabilities, and like many things in life, how easy they THOUGHT the process would be to aquire a skill, or new level from start to finish.

Day 1, Day 2, Day 3...all passed, and although some remained excited, the excitement quickly began to diminish. By the end of the week, it was over for most and they wanted to quit because of dissapointment in themselves. I would hear, "ugh, I just quit! I can't do this! I just wasn't meant for fashion." But for the few that THOUGHT differently, although they were similar in so many ways: background, attended the same schools, family life and same friends, I noticed that their mindset was different. They THOUGHT different. Like the rest of the class, it was difficult, however, those few BELIEVED that at some point, within that four-week time frame, they would aquire that skill. Because of their BELIEF, not only did they come in and work harder, through their actions, and results of accomplishment, they begin to inspire others in the class that had given up. By the last day of class, ALL had completed an entire garment and received the opportunity to model the garment later in a fashion show! The excitement of the initial hopes and dreams in the beginning returened, but this time they were different! The dreams and hopes were now bigger, because through FAITH, preseverance, and hard work, they saw a possibility become possible!

When we change our THOUGHTS, GOD can change our lives and the lives of others forever! All it takes is just "one" thought from "one" believer, to impact the lives of many! We ALL have reaped the benefits of freedom, because of the few that sowed and fought for the THOUGHT beyond bondage.

"Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them." Mark 11:23
